Developing for Android, I am getting through quite a few phones. Here are my impressions:

g1white G1 (In white!) - Used for testing

  • Advantages - Was upgraded lots of times - now on 1.6.
  • Disadvantages - Backlit keyboard unreadable in some lighting conditions. Very poor camera.

tmopulse T-Mobile Pulse - Used for testing

  • Advantages - Very cheap device. I purchased £179 without contract. Physically wider screen makes on-screen keyboard more usable.
  • Disadvantages - No upgrades. Stuck on Android 1.5… but ok for v1.5 specific dev testing. Some users report USB socket coming away from PCB. No indication LED.

milestone Motorola Milestone (Droid) - The phone I carry with me

  • Advantages - Fast. Great screen resolution.
  • Disadvantages - Poorer battery life. No up/down keys when keyboard closed.
nexus Nexus One - Used for testing

  • Advantages - Fast. Great screen. Small - iPhone-like.
  • Disadvantages - Poor battery life
